Welcome to CtCSarasota!

The purpose of CtCSarasota (Continuing the Conversation) is to foster discussion within the Sarasota County area on how our aging population impacts our community. How can we ensure that the needs of our neighbors are met as they age? What are the effects of our aging population on our community? How can we use this resource to the benefit of our community as a whole?

The general demographics are simple and are not unique to Sarasota. The population in the United States is aging. What is unique to our area is the fact that Sarasota County has by far the highest percentage of residents over 65 of any county in the US with a population over 250,000.  And, this does not include our “snow bird” friends and others who visit our area. This puts us on the cutting edge of figuring out how to address the needs and desires of an aging society to the benefit of all.

CtCSarasota grew out of “Winter Forums” that have been held inSarasota County since 2005. The forums were originally part of SCOPE’s “Aging: The Possibility” initiative. In 2012, the Winter Forum torch was passed to the Institute for the Ages, which itself grew out of earlier “Aging: The Possibility” discussions. People who attended past Winter Forums wanted to keep the conversations generated at the Winter Forums alive between annual events. In response to this request, CtC Sarasota was created and work and study groups emerged that focus on different aspects of aging and community. These groups use the site to share information with each other and with their members.

 CtC groups include:

 Brain Health

Caregivers Groups

Creative Art Vitality

Healthcare Work Group

Housing: Living in Community

Internet and Technology Users Group

Work Matters! Money Matters!

This web site is designed to accomplish two objectives. Our first objective is to keep the Sarasota Community informed on what we are doing and make it easy for anyone interested to become involved. To find out more about work group activity, click on the Work Group tab and select the desired work group. You might also check the calendar for upcoming meetings and events.

Our second objective is to facilitate communication and coordination among the CtC’s various groups. This is a resource site for each of the groups to use to keep their members and others up to date on events, ideas and what's happening in the community.
